Our Meeting with Sawyer

We were taken to Sawyer's orphanage for a visit today. We were greeted by the new Social Worker who will be representing Sawyer's best interests. She asked us about our professions and if we had any experience with children his age. She also asked if we knew of his routine and eating and sleeping habits. We stated that we know only the routine that was shared with us since the last time that we came. The Social Worker was satisfied, but wanted us to come during lunch time (or dinner) to view him eating so we knew of his eating habits. So, tomorrow we have a full day - medicals all morning - then watch Sawyer eat - then off to see Sutton.

Sawyer finally came into the room and was a bit tentative at first. I held out my hands and he came to me cautiously. Within a minute or two, he was back to the Sawyer we know - except he talked much more this time. We had some play farm animals and stuffed dogs and a stuffed Koala bear. He called everything a dog - it did not matter what the animal was, he called it a dog. Sawyer looked a bit like a punk rocker - he had two areas (sores / cuts on his head) that were medicated with purple medicine that dyed his hair purple. We did not see any cuts - and he did not seem like they bothered him - he even bumped his head a few times and did not cry out. We had a fun time with him! He liked to watch Bryan or I chomp down on anything that he put close to our mouths. He liked to be tickled and for someone to blow bubbles on his tummy. He loved the balloon and ball - but still does not have a concept of playing with others - He is in that stage of development where he can parallel play, but not play with others for a prolonged period of time. Once again, he was a bit more fascinated with the wrapping and paper than he was with the toys - and he did not seem real interested in the cars. He constantly wanted to crawl up anything he could - the couch, and would have crawled up a lattice-like ladder in the room if we would have let him. He does not like the word "Niet" (No) and that word did not deter him from doing what he wanted - but he will learn.

The day was cool - high 60's with a light breeze - some sun. Around 5pm, we got a shower and it began to get a bit cooler. Bryan and I are on the 5th floor and we have the living room window open and the bedroom window open - it is so nice!!!

Tomorrow will be a long
