We were able to meet with Sawyer today. We met first with the social worker that will represent the orphanage. She asked several questions about our profession and if we had any experience with children his age. Then she asked if we knew about his routine, his eating habits, sleeping habits, etc. We told her that we only know of those things were were told last time. She seemed satisfied, however she wanted us to come back tomorrow and watch Sawyer eat. She told us that he can feed himself, but he still needs assistance in reminding him to go to the bathroom - I wanted to tell her that every 26 month old I know needs those constant reminders, but I didn't.
Sawyer finally came into the room and he looked like a punk rocker. He had two purple dyed areas on his head (like a child that has decided to use a marker on his hair). Upon further review, we found that he had two sores/cuts on his head. They seemed healed, and they did not seem to bother him at all.
We had fun playing with Sawyer - we had several farm animal figures as well as 2 stuffed dogs and a stuffed Koala bear (compliments of Trace in DC when he took us to the zoo). Sawyer liked playing with the animals - he called every animal a dog - and he was a bit fascinated with their tales. Of course, the true Sawyer came out when he left the animals alone and began playing with the tube that the animals came in - from then on, he had that tube in his hand. He enjoyed playing with the ball and balloon, however he had no concept of playing with others (throwing the ball to Bryan - hitting the balloon up in the air). He did, however, want to crawl on everything - the couch, the chair, the ladder in the room. He was very interested in the dirt that the plants were in - and when he was told, "Nieyt" - (No) - he continued. He does have a mind of his own. He loved getting kisses - especially blowing bubbles on his tummy. He had no problem coming to Bryan or myself - and he liked putting things close to our mouths for us to bite at.
When it was time to go, I picked him up and gave him a thousand kisses as we walked down the stairs to join his class. When we found one of his caregivers, Sawyer was not ready to say goodbye. He did not cry, but he did not go readily to the caregiver either. That made me feel good - I told him, "Paka" (goodbye) - and waved - he waved back. Sawyer will be the talker - there were very few quiet moments during our play time together.
We will see him tomorrow - eating - and then run to Sutton's orphanage to have some play time with him. All of this will occur in the afternoon as we have medicals in the morning (6 more doctors - see previous blog). I hope to be able to blog tomorrow but it will be extremely busy - I will try. We are doing well - the weather is fantastic - high 60's with a breeze - we have the windows open in the living room and bedroom and it feels wonderful! We had a bit of rain late this afternoon and it is becoming cooler as night approaches, but this is fantastic weather!
Love to all for now - we are going to grab some dinner and get to bed. Bryan is fading fast as we have not completely mastered the time change - but we are doing well for now.
