Well, we made it. The flight was 12 hours and 10 minutes long - we never want to take another flight that long again. The stewards and stewardesses were wonderful. We have never flown Singapore Air before, and they were phenomenal. They were so nice to the boys, and the boys were served about 20 minutes before all other passengers (and it was a kid friendly meal). This allowed us to feed them - and then we could eat when our food was served with the rest of the passengers. They came by often and would talk with the boys and make sure that they had plenty of drink. If we ever have to fly somewhere again, we will check to see if Singapore Air is available.
Bryan drew the short straw on the flight. I asked him which child he wanted for the flight - he chose Sutton. Now, Sawyer was a handful, but I was able to entertain him most of the flight - and he took two naps. Sutton, on the other hand, was interested in pushing any and all buttons that were in his vicinity. He pushed the call button frequently, and Bryan tried to push it again to turn it off before it was noticed. He was not interested in the movies that were being played (and he had about 10 to choose from) - he was just very busy. He cried a few times when Bryan was adamant about him not pushing any more buttons. But, they were short lived cries. He finally took about a 3 hour nap and Bryan had some peace. About 15 minutes prior to landing, it was time to put on the seat belts. I was able to find something to keep Sawyer's mind off it (plus, he was able to sit on my lap). Sutton would not have anything to do with the seat belt. He cried the first 5 minutes and then the screamed the last 10minutes. Bryan was so good with him - He kept saying, "It's ok - we are landing soon - etc. But I know everyone on the plane was glad when we landed because as soon as we hit the ground, Bryan took the seat belt off of Sutton and he immediately stopped screaming. The stewardesses didn't even say anything (even though he was supposed to have it on while we taxied to a stop) - they were happy he had stopped screaming as well!
We arrived at the airport and Bryan was taken to a holding area for immigration and I was taken to a different immigration holding tank. I was really pissed about this. I do not understand why we had to be separated when we were from the same family. About an hour later, we were released and we met up with Bryan. We exited the baggage claim site to a big surprise. We knew that mom and Rick would be waiting to pick us up, but Dad and Claire were there as well. They had balloons and a goody basket for each boy. The boys were a bit stand-offish because they had only been with us for the past month. We made it to the vehicle and got the boys buckled in to their car seat. Neither liked it much - Sutton whined and cried again and finally fell asleep. Sawyer wined a bit and fell asleep. We decided to stop at a gas station for a drink. As soon as we started the car again, they both woke up. Sutton decided it was time to show everyone how big a fit he could throw. And he did!! He screamed at the top of his lungs for another 10 minutes. We apologized (especially since Mom had just stated that "even when (our boys) cry, they do so without much velocity") Of course Sutton had to prove her wrong.
We made it home and had a welcoming wagon waiting for us. My sister and brother's families were there, as well as Aunt Helen, Uncle Jerry, Aunt Phyllis, Uncle Bill, and Donna. Our fence was decorated with paper and two signs hung in the front windows welcoming the boys home. The boys were so tired that they just watched as everyone welcomed them. About 20 minutes later, everyone left and we put the boys to bed. We decided to sleep in their rooms this first night - and the boys were so tired that they slept for a good part of the night. Bryan and I were up at 3am - I began unpacking. Around 4am, the boys were up. And we were determined to try to keep to a schedule - and it worked. The boys stayed fairly happy all day and went to bed at 8pm (our normal time).
Bryan and I want to say a big Thank You to everyone who has been following along and saying prayers for us. We are excited to be at home and can finally breathe a sigh of relief that the boys are really ours (now that we are on American soil). We are officially acclimated now (It only took 3 days), and the boys are sleeping through the night. If you live close by, give us a call and come by. We would love to introduce you to our two little Angels (at least we hope they are Angels when you come by)!!!!
